The Dunajec River Gorge Rafting is one of the greatest attractions of our region. It will not be exaggerated to say that it is an attraction on an European scale. It is one of the most beautiful gorges in our continent. Rafting route is 15km long and is organized by the Polish Association of the Pieniny Rafters. Origins of the Dunajec River Gorge are shrouded in mystery. Local highlanders tell many legends that attempt to explain its history.
Wooden rafts set out from the rafting marina in Sromowce-Kąty. Flowing through the Pieniny Mountains the Dunajec creates winding, rocky gorge with a length of about 9km. The gorge is surrounded by several hundred metres high limestone cliffs which beautifully compose with growing forests. The unique landscape of this region attracts crowds of tourists from all over the world every year.
Rafting is carried out on specially adapted wooden rafts built of five canoes. One raft can take between 10-12 people. The raft is operated by two oarsmen. The prevailing Dunajec River Gorge Rafting stage runs through Polish and Slovak border.
Participation in rafting does not require special preparation and equipment. However, you should bear in mind that the weather can be chilly during the trip. Therefore, an extra clothing may turn out to be useful. Rafting season takes place between 1 April and 31 October. During this time, you can enjoy The Dunajec River Gorge Rafting every day except Catholic Holidays: Corpus Christi and the first day of Easter. Rafts set out once the minimum number of 10 people is completed.
